Background
L&M Imaging Systems Ltd can trace its UK origin back to the formation of Linotype and Machinery in 1890 and is still based at the factory site in Altrincham. The L&M Group was formed as a result of a management buyout from Allied Linotype in 1982. L&M Imaging Systems Ltd was formed in 1991 and has traded successfully ever since.
A subsequent management buyout from L&M Group was completed in 2005. The company is now owned and operated by Tim Clough, the Managing Director. Although initially formed as a Pre-Press sales and support company, L&M Imaging Systems Ltd developed over the years into a specialist support group offering expert assistance to manufacturers, distributors and end users. The following are areas currently supported.
Newspapers
L&M Imaging has provided European support for two large American equipment manufacturers for almost ten years. Our unique levels of skill have ensured that dealers and end users have been given manufacturers’ levels of training and support. In addition to the equipment we install we are familiar with complex workflows, CTPs, imagesetters, automated plate exposure, plate processing, optical punch/bending, plate transportation/sorting, press lockups and matching plate drawings. We are often called in on a consultancy basis to diagnose prepress shortfalls and work with the press hall to ensure quality, run length and registration.
Commercial Printers
L&M Imaging has supported RIPs, OPIs, Workflows and Spooler software in addition to CTPs, imagesetters and proofers both on site and utilising remote diagnostics. In addition to film and plate calibration we can also calibrate the monitors, presses and proofers and provide software and hardware to ensure presses are matched and proofs remain accurate.
Screen Printers
L&M Imaging has supported RIPs, OPIs, Workflows and Spooler software in addition to Direct to Screen, imagesetters and proofers both on site and utilising remote diagnostics. In addition to film calibration we can also calibrate the monitors, presses and proofers and provide software and hardware to ensure presses are matched and proofs remain accurate. We recognise that all aspects of stencil preparation are very important and can provide support on screen stretching, automated cleaning, coating and drying equipment.
As more screen printers move into digital printing we are happy to provide support on large format inkjets as detailed below.
Sign, Display, Photographic and Map Printers
L&M Imaging has supported RIPs and large format inkjet printers both on site and utilising remote diagnostics. We are happy to provide support on large format inkjets both flat bed and roll fed and in addition to creating ICC profiles for most media with printers using all types of ink systems have a deep understanding of the colour gamut required.
Research and Development
L&M Imaging has been contracted in by manufacturers to assist in the development and testing of their products. These have always been in the print industry but we are open to utilising our knowledge and experience in other areas.
Geographical Area
The majority of support has been in the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Holland, Belgium Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Norway and Turkey. However, we are happy to work in all European countries and have had enquiries from USA, Africa, China and Russia.
Maintenance Contracts
Maintenance Contracts are available providing same day response where possible. As partners to many manufacturers and dealers these must be through the appropriate manufacturer or dealer to avoid breach of our many non-competitive agreements.
